Step one you say we need to talk

Some sort of window to your right

As he goes left and you stay right
G/B chordG/B Am chordAm
Between the lines of fear and blame
G chordG G/B chordG/B
And you begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong I lost a friend

Somewhere along in the bitterness

Had I known how to save a life

Try to slip past his defence
G chordG G/B chordG/B C chordC
Without granting innocence
G/B chordG/B Am chordAm
Lay down a list of what is wrong
G chordG G/B chordG/B C chordC
The things you've told him all along
G chordG G/B chordG/B
And pray to God he hears you

CHORUS:

F chordF G chordG Am chordAm
Where did I go wrong I lost a friend
C chordC G chordG
Somewhere along in the bitterness
F chordF G chordG Am chordAm
And I would have stayed up with you all night

Had I known how to save a life

As he begins to raise his voice
Am chordAm G chordG G/B chordG/B C chordC
You lower yours and grant him one last choice

Drive until you lose the road
G chordG G/B chordG/B C chordC
Or break with the ones you've followed
G/B chordG/B Am chordAm
He will do one of two things
G chordG G/B chordG/B C chordC
He will admit to everything
G/B chordG/B Am chordAm
Or he'll say he's just not the same
G chordG G/B chordG/B
And you'll begin to wonder why you came

CHORUS:

F chordF G chordG Am chordAm
Where did I go wrong I lost a friend
C chordC G chordG
Somewhere along in the bitterness
F chordF G chordG Am chordAm
And I would have stayed up with you all night

Had I known how to save a life
