Monster Mash
Bobby (Boris) Pickett

G baritone chordG
I was working in the lab late one night
Em baritone chordEm
When my eyes beheld an eerie sight
C baritone chordC
For my monster from his slab began to rise
D baritone chordD
And suddenly to my surprise

G baritone chordG
He did the mash

He did the monster mash
Em baritone chordEm
The monster mash

It was a graveyard smash
C baritone chordC
He did the mash

It caught on in a flash
D baritone chordD
He did the mash

He did the monster mash

G baritone chordG
From my laboratory in the castle east
Em baritone chordEm
To the master bedroom where the vampires feast
C baritone chordC
The ghouls all came from their humble abodes
D baritone chordD
To get a jolt from my electrodes

G baritone chordG
They did the mash
They did the monster mash
Em baritone chordEm
The monster mash
It was a graveyard smash
C baritone chordC
They did the mash
It caught on in a flash
D baritone chordD
They did the mash
They did the monster mash

C baritone chordC
The zombies were having fun
D baritone chordD
The party had just begun
C baritone chordC
The guests included Wolf Man
D baritone chordD
Dracula and his son

G baritone chordG
The scene was rockin', all were digging the sounds
Em baritone chordEm
Igor on chains, backed by his baying hounds
C baritone chordC
The Coffin-Bangers were about to arrive
D baritone chordD
With their vocal group, "The Crypt-Kicker Five"

G baritone chordG
They played the mash
They played the monster mash
Em baritone chordEm
The monster mash
It was a graveyard smash
C baritone chordC
They played the mash
It caught on in a flash
D baritone chordD
They played the mash
They played the monster mash

G baritone chordG
Out from his coffin, Drac's voice did ring
Em baritone chordEm
Seems he was troubled by just one thing
C baritone chordC
He opened the lid and shook his fist
D baritone chordD
And said, "Whatever happened to my Transylvania twist?"

G baritone chordG
It's now the mash
It's now the monster mash
Em baritone chordEm
The monster mash
And it's a graveyard smash
C baritone chordC
It's now the mash
It's caught on in a flash
D baritone chordD
It's now the mash
It's now the monster mash

G baritone chordG
Now everything's cool, Drac's a part of the band
Em baritone chordEm
And my monster mash is the hit of the land
C baritone chordC
For you, the living, this mash was meant too
D baritone chordD
When you get to my door, tell them Boris sent you

G baritone chordG
Then you can mash
Then you can monster mash
Em baritone chordEm
The monster mash
And do my graveyard smash
C baritone chordC
Then you can mash
You'll catch on in a flash
Then you can mash
D baritone chordD
Then you can monster mash

About this song: Monster Mash

"Monster Mash" is a 1962 novelty song and the best-known song by Bobby "Boris" Pickett. The song was released as a single on Gary S. Paxton's Garpax Records label in October 1962 along with a full-length LP called The Original Monster Mash, which contained several other monster-themed tunes. The "Monster Mash" single reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on October 20 of that year, just in time for Halloween. It has been a perennial holiday favourite ever since.
