Learn how to play with simple and easy to understand Ukulele Lessons for beginners.
Level: Beginner
Type: Lesson

One of the most asked questions from beginners in the Ukulele community is you should change cords. When I started playing I asked everyone that same question. Hopefully, this is the resource you need to improve your newfound skill.

Step One: Make sure you know where your hands need to be
Practice your cord before you focus on the transitions. What finger goes on what string? What fret is this? Get comfortable with playing the specific cords you'll be using
Step Two: Give yourself time
It's okay to slow down the pace of a song to give yourself time. It takes a lot of practice to do specific transitions.
Step Three: Don't expect yourself to be perfect
Remember that every ukulele player went through the same thing that you are. It's okay to get something wrong.
Step Four: Watch your hands
Look where your hands are going at first. You can always record yourself to see what's going wrong.
Step Five: Try without watching
While it's nice to be able to see what you're doing, it also makes your posture worse. At some point, you'll need to change cords too quickly to look.
Step Six: Never give up
It's okay to get it wrong at times, all you can do is practice each day until you get it.

Tip: Don't use lotion or oil before trying to play your Uke
Tip: Try not to play for more than 15 minutes each day until your used to the Ukulele
