Em Em
On a long and lonesome highway, East of Omaha
D D
You can listen to the engines Moanin' out it's one note song
A A Em Em
You can think about the woman, Or the girl you knew the night before
Em Em
But your thoughts will soon be wanderin', The way they always do
D D
When you're ridin' 16 hours, And there's nothin' much to do
A A Em Em
And you don't feel much like ridin', You just wish the trip was through
D D Em Em
Here I am, on the road again,
D D Em Em
There I am, up on the stage
D D A A
There I go, playin' star again,
C C D D Em Em
There I go, turn the page
Em Em
So you walk into this restaurant, All strung out from the road
D D
And you feel the eyes upon you, As you're shakin' off the cold
A A Em Em
You pretend it doesn't bother you, But you just want to explode
Em Em
Yeah, most times you can't hear 'em talk, Other times you can
D D
All the same old cliches Is it woman, is it man
A A Em Em
And you always seem outnumbered, You don't dare make a stand

Make your stand

D D Em Em
Here I am, on the road again,
D D Em Em
There I am, up on the stage
D D A A
There I go, playin' star again,
C C D D Em Em
There I go, turn the page Whoa
Em Em
Out there in the spotlight, You're a million miles away
D D
Every ounce of energy, You try and give away
A A Em Em
As the sweat pours out your body, Like the music that you play
Em Em
Later in the evenin', As you lie awake in bed
D D
With the echoes of the amplifiers, Ringin' in your head
A A Em Em
You smoke the day's last cigarette, Rememberin' what she said

What she said

D D Em Em D D Em Em D D Em Em C C D D Em Em

D D Em Em
Yeah here I am, on the road again,
D D Em Em
There I am, up on that stage
D D A A
There I go, playin' star again,
C C D D Em Em
There I go, turn that page
C C D D Em Em
And there I go, turn that page
C C D D Em Em
There I go, yeah,
C C D D Em Em
Here I go, yeah, yeah
C C D D Em Em
There I go, yeah,
C C D D Em Em
Here I go, yeah

About this song

"Turn the Page" is a song originally released by Bob Seger in 1973 on his Back in '72 album. The song was later covered by Metallica, as the first single from their 1998 Garage Inc. album, reaching #1 on the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart for 11 consecutive weeks, the highest number of weeks Metallica has ever spent at the top; drummer Lars Ulrich had heard the original song while driving across the Golden Gate Bridge and later commented that he thought it "Had James all over it".
