Introduction:
One [C baritone chordC]evening as the sun went down
And the jungle fire was burning,
Down the track came a hobo hikin',
And he said, "Boys, I'm not turning.
I'm [F baritone chordF]headed for a [C baritone chordC]land that's [F baritone chordF]far a[C baritone chordC]way,
Be[F baritone chordF]side the crystal [G7 baritone chordG7]fountains,
So [C baritone chordC]come with me, we'll go and see,
The Big Rock [G7 baritone chordG7]Candy [C baritone chordC]Mountains."
Verse 1:
"[C baritone chordC]In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
There's a [F baritone chordF]land that's fair and [C baritone chordC]bright,
Where the [F baritone chordF]handouts grow on [C baritone chordC]bushes,
And you [F baritone chordF]sleep out every [G7 baritone chordG7]night,
Where the [C baritone chordC]boxcars all are empty,
And the [F baritone chordF]sun shines every [C baritone chordC]day,
On the [F baritone chordF]birds and the [C baritone chordC]bees
And the [F baritone chordF]cigarette [C baritone chordC]trees,
The [F baritone chordF]lemonade [C baritone chordC]springs
Where the [F baritone chordF]bluebird [C baritone chordC]sings,
In the [G7 baritone chordG7]Big Rock Candy [C baritone chordC]Mountains."
Verse 2:
"[C baritone chordC]In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
All the [F baritone chordF]cops have wooden [C baritone chordC]legs,
And the [F baritone chordF]bulldogs all have [C baritone chordC]rubber teeth,
And the [F baritone chordF]hens lay soft boiled [G7 baritone chordG7]eggs.
The [C baritone chordC]farmers' trees are full of fruit
And the [F baritone chordF]barns are full of [C baritone chordC]hay.
Oh, I'm [F baritone chordF]bound to [C baritone chordC]go
Where there [F baritone chordF]ain't no [C baritone chordC]snow,
Where the [F baritone chordF]rain don't [C baritone chordC]fall
And the [F baritone chordF]wind don't [C baritone chordC]blow,
In the [G7 baritone chordG7]Big Rock Candy [C baritone chordC]Mountains."
Verse 3:
"[C baritone chordC]In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
You [F baritone chordF]never change your [C baritone chordC]socks,
And the [F baritone chordF]little streams of [C baritone chordC]alcohol
Come a-[F baritone chordF]tricklin' down the [G7 baritone chordG7]rocks,
The [C baritone chordC]brakemen have to tip their hats
And the [F baritone chordF]railroad bulls are [C baritone chordC]blind.
There's a [F baritone chordF]lake of [C baritone chordC]stew,
And of [F baritone chordF]whiskey [C baritone chordC]too,
You can [F baritone chordF]paddle all a[C baritone chordC]round 'em
In a [F baritone chordF]big ca[C baritone chordC]noe,
In the [G7 baritone chordG7]Big Rock Candy [C baritone chordC]Mountains."
Verse 4:
"[C baritone chordC]In the Big Rock Candy Mountains,
The [F baritone chordF]jails are made of [C baritone chordC]tin,
And [F baritone chordF]you can walk right [C baritone chordC]out again,
As [F baritone chordF]soon as you are [G7 baritone chordG7]in.
There [C baritone chordC]ain't no short-handled shovels,
No [F baritone chordF]axes, saws, or [C baritone chordC]picks,
I'm a-[F baritone chordF]going to [C baritone chordC]stay,
Where you [F baritone chordF]sleep all [C baritone chordC]day,
Where they [F baritone chordF]hung the [C baritone chordC]jerk,
Who in[F baritone chordF]vented [C baritone chordC]work,
I'll [F baritone chordF]see you [C baritone chordC]all
This [F baritone chordF]coming [C baritone chordC]fall,
In the [G7 baritone chordG7]Big Rock Candy [C baritone chordC]Mountains."

About this song: Big Rock Candy Mountain

"Big Rock Candy Mountain" is a song about a hobo's idea of paradise - a modern version of the medieval concept of Cockaigne, and similar to the cavalryman's concept of Fiddler's Green. The song describes a hobo's vision of utopia, a place where the "hens lay soft boiled eggs" and there are "cigarette trees". The song is also rather ironic and satirical in that it additionally describes modified versions of things that one wouldn't think should exist in paradise at all, such as police (with wooden legs) and jails (made of tin)...
