First we will learn to play natural harmonics, so to begin place your fingers very lightly on the bottom fretboard marker of the twelfth fret. So lightly infact that if you moved you finger away they would no longer be touching the strings, but any more and you would mute the strings. Now lightly pluck the string, don't fret (pun intended) if it doesn't work on your first try it will either take a while or it won't. Now for the much harder part, artificial harmonics. Place your finger as if you were playing the C chord, now  count three frets up the board (note that I mean up in sound not in heighth) now place your pointer finger of your right hand lightly on the 15th fret, and pluck.  The sound should sound like a bell, you have now learned harmonics, you can play harmonics on the fifth and seventh fret also.

When you are reading tabs, harmonics look like this.

A|-------<12>--------------------

E|---------------------------

C|---------------------------

G|---------------------------

Or like this...

A|-------*17--------------------

E|---------------------------

C|---------------------------

G|---------------------------
