A scale is a series of notes that make up all the notes in a key. The C and G keys are the most widely used and have the easiest scales. By knowing the C and G scale you can pretty much jam up a lead to any pop song.

The easiest is the C scale which goes C D E F G A B and is played like so-

G--------------------------------------------------------

C--0-2-4-----------------------------------------------

E---------1-3-------------------------------------------

A-------------0-2-3------------------------------------

The second scale is a G scale, and is it the same except for F being raised to a F#. It plays like this-

G--------------------------------------------------------

C--0-2-4-----------------------------------------------

E---------1-4-------------------------------------------

A-------------0-2-3------------------------------------

Practice these scales, and you can smash out any lead in a second.
