That may have just been a typo, bit the riff is supposed to be played on the G string then the E strong. If you meant that you prefer playing it on the E and C strings rather than the G and E strings, I can definitely see where you are coming from. The actual riff is played using the notes I've specified here three or more octaves lower, so although your way sacrifices key accuracy, it does increase pitch accuracy. If that sounds better to you, I say go for it.

Eh, its OK at best. Does not sound much like the original song. It sounds a little better if the riff is played on the E string then the C string instead of the G string and then the C string. Maybe that's just me though.
