Starting from the Beginning

Postby OptimisticAbyss » 09 Aug 2012, 02:19

Hello, I grew up in Hawaii, and ended up picking up an ukulele during my middle school years. Recently I've started college, and I've become unacquainted with my ukulele in the space in between. But I have to say once I got reacquainted with it, it seems to be coming a little easier. How long have you been playing and do you find that if you haven't played for a while, you are a bit rusty but it comes back easily?

I just started this year but I am really into it. I don't know about getting rusty, cuz I don't have enough skills for them to even develop rust yet!

I played guitar before I got into uke. I had a decent amount of disposable income after a summer job last year, so I figured "Hey, why not? I'll get an ukulele". So... I did. The chords were easy enough; they're the same fingerings and the names are just shifted up a fourth (although I admit I have trouble using the right chord names most of the time. It's easier to just refer to them by their guitar names). Until recently I only played one song that wasn't just messing around on chords, so I haven't really had the chance to push myself technically. I'm hoping to change that though. I pretty much just jumped in feet first coming from guitar, which made the transition incredibly easy for me. It's been a year now and my uke is still my favorite instrument to play (not to mention the most portable).

I've had a ukulele for nearly two years. I tend to go through phases of playing/not playing but I've got really into it lately. I've probably played more in the last week than I did in the preceding two years.
