Fender Ukulele

Postby Connork9 » 20 Aug 2012, 19:20

I have had my Fender Hau'Oli for almost two months now and I am very
happy with it.
It is Tenor sized and it has a good overall feel to it.
It plays excellent and looks great and is a good instrument to learn on.
It fits into the -200 price range without sounding or looking cheap.
It came with a very nice gig bag, Aquila Nylgut strings and Fender tuners.
I have no real complaints about this instrument aside from a few scratches
but I have read several negative reviews online on fender ukuleles so keep that in mind if you
are considering purchasing one of their instruments, but I that you will be very happy with it
if you do buy one. :uke:

I tried one out at my local shop, and I didn't really like it. It didn't play that well. It might have just been that particular one, as Fender's quality tends to vary from instrument to instrument. When they are good, they are great, but they can be really hit or miss.

It's cool that you got a good one though!

I too, have a Fender tenor uke. I chose it because I liked its tone in comparison with others, and the slightly bigger fretboard is comfortable for my hands.I am new to the instrument, though I have played a small amount of guitar for years. I use the ukulele to teach classroom music, and also play just for fun. Anyway, I've been very pleased with the Fender, and it has been all over the country with me.

I started playing a uke almost 2 years ago. I played several different ones loaned to me by members of a local uke group. After trying the soprano, concert, tenor and baritone, I settled for a Fender Koa Nohea and Aquila Nylgut strings. I think it is a fantastic instrument. I like a combination strum and pick playing style, and am most satisfied with the different sounds I can get. I can't sing very well, but am happy to play in support of other singers when they want to entertain. Songs with which I feel I get the best sounds are: Hotel California, Four Strong Winds and One Too Many Mornings. Usually I get asked to do solos with them!

I had the chance today of trying out 3 tenor Fender ukuleles: Hau'oli, Pa'ina and the Nohea.

Have to say none of them blew my mind, especially with their price tag. Indeed, the Pa'ina (solid mahogani) sounded kind of dull and uninspiring. The Hau'oli (laminated mahogani) sounded prettier, but there is no reason to drop 200+ EUR on it. The all-Koa Nohea was beautifully made: its looks where breathtaking; super smooth to touch... BUT: the sound coming out of it wasn't any better than my Samick/Greg Bennett uke.

The search for a sweet tenor goes on.

I have a Nohea and a Hao'ole the latter as low g. I was concerned with the Hao'ole as I also read reports of problem, but I have been very happy with the sound of both
